Remember when you were younger playing your Nintendo Gameboy? Remember all the awesome games that made that little piece of plastic incredible? There were many games that made this handheld great and memorable like Mario, Tetris, and Zelda. But there was one more game series that revolutionized gaming forever, and that is Pokémon! If for some reason you do not know what Pokémon is, Pokémon is a role playing, adventure, fighting game published by Nintendo. You may also know Pokémon through another popular way and that was the trading card game that was in the same category as games like Yu-Gi-Oh. The first two Pokémon games for the Gameboy were released on September 28, 1998 in the US and that was Red and Blue edition. Anyway now that you have a bit more understanding of what Pokémon is, we can now talk about the newest edition to the franchise and that is none other than Pokémon Go!
What is Pokémon Go?
If you are a gamer and use social media there is a pretty high chance you already know what Pokémon Go is, the game has definitely taken the world by storm, and not only to gamers there are some people who have never shown an interest in gaming before playing this game. For the people that do not know Pokémon Go is a Augmented Reality game developed by Niantic, Inc. made for mobile devices.
What is Augmented Reality?
Well according to Google it’s “a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, thus providing a composite view.” But in Layman’s terms its Pokémon in real life! Now you can’t actually go to Wal-Mart and buy a few PokéBalls and go hunt for a Pikachu.
How It Works!
So you boot up your Android or Apple device and click on the app with a little PokéBall on it, and at first you will be asked to sign in with a Google account and create your Pokémon trainer, and as tradition you get to pick a starter Pokémon. After you get through the tutorial and all that exciting stuff, you are ready to start hunting some Pokémon! So when the game officially begins you will notice your trainer on a map that looks very much like Google or Apple maps, Then you can start moving around your street, city, and basically wherever you go!
PokéStops are where a trainer stays loaded up with gear that will help them fight and catch Pokémon. When near a Stop which will be indicated as a blue PokéBall sign on your map, the Stop will expand and notify you that you are close enough to retrieve the items that it is holding. So you click on the Stop and you will be greeted by a picture of the landmark that it is assigned to in a circle, then you spin the circle and you can get items like PokéBalls, Eggs, Potions, and many other items depending on the level you are.
Pokémon gyms and Teams:
Now when you reach level 5 in the game by catching Pokémon or hatching eggs etc. you will be asked to choose a team that you would like to be a part of. There are 3 teams you can choose from which are (get a t-shirt!) Instinct (Yellow), Mystic (Blue), or Valor (Red). Now to be warned if you are planning on playing with your friends and wanting to catch them all together, then you may want to group up and decide what team you will choose. So what is the use for teams exactly? Well one of the main goals to help you level up and get some Pikachu coins for the market would be capture gyms for your team and helping them become the most dominant team in the game! You capture gyms by defeating the team and Pokémon that are already assigned to that gym, be warned it is not as easy as it sounds. Most trainers like to put their most powerful Pokémon on the gym that they just captured and you have to beat every single one of them until you can claim the gym yourself, which being on the same team with your friends may come in handy to help you defeat that powerful Charizard that team Valor has.
I mainly wrote this article for the beginners of Pokémon Go so when they finally do choose to play they will not be completely confused and unknowing of what to do next. Remember Pokémon Go is a very fun and entertaining game that can help you relive the Pokémon experience that you knew when you were younger and maybe make some new friends along the way, just remember to be safe playing it and get out there and CATCH EM ALL!
